Jane Adams discovered that mothers who worked all day had no way to care for their children. So they would tie their young children to a table leg and leave them in the tenement while they went off to work. These mothers were immigrants so they knew little to no English and they worked in factories which paid very little and had poor working conditions.
Her findings were successful because she founded the Hull House. A settlement house in Chicago for immigrants and the poor. She put in a child day care so children could be left there and the Hull House helped European immigrants to get a better life.
