Upton Sinclair was one of the few Muckrakers and wrote a book called “The Jungle” . He had researched about the meat packing industry in 1906. He described how dead rats were shoveled into sausage-grinding machines and how bribed inspectors looked the other way when diseased and cows were slaughter for beef and filth guts were swept off the floor and packaged as “potted Ham”.
